My thoughts on the movie:
Too childish, especially Radagast. The humor does not sit too well with me. I wanted it to be darker. There were actually multiple face-palms on my behalf during the movie.
I didn't like the Goblin king. He was, let's say, far from the impression Azog made. I don't have a problem with Azog though. I understand that they have to tie those stories together.
Graham McTavish did a very good job as Dwalin. The interpretation of Gloin and Thorin was good too. I hated Ori and especially Bombur. They were supposed to be seasoned warriors almost every single one of them, and then you have this fat baby-faced dwarf and a retard running around with a slingshot. Wtf PJ?
Regarding the fighting, I hated that there was a lack of tactical thinking. Whenever I see action with people falling hundred feed without taking damage and swinging from one section of a bride to another before everything magically collapses, almost make me cry. It's so god damn stupid.
How about them using weapons such as poleaxes and crossbows with a goat's lever mechanism or belt hook. How about some javelins/spears and some god damn shields. Catalan Company style, Hoplite style, or Richard the Lionheart's Crossbow and spear-wall mixed-arms strategy.I could go on and on. In the poleaxe you have a spear, hammer against armor and an axe against soft targets such as Goblins. Perfect! In combination with the fighting experience of these seasoned warrior-dwarfs and some god damn aggression and commitment from them in those tunnels, the goblins would have been massacred. It would have made that escape much more convincing. I wanted to see some blood and brains all over the place.
Apart from all this it was a good movie, don't get me wrong. A lot of it was very good.
Will the Third age modders use some of this content in their upcoming patc/update? Will Azog as a wolf rider be added to the game? Or the Goblin king? Other stuff?
